The anime film version of "AKIRA" was released in theaters in 1988, and revolutionized the world of animation beyond the realm of manga.
This book is the third (and final) of a three-volume collection of layouts, original drawings, and original corrections used in the film production, drawn by Katsuhiro Otomo, the original author and director. A layout is a drawing that contains the necessary information for each scene that makes up the main anime and serves as a blueprint for animation drawings. In addition to the original drawings and layouts of "Part C (continuation from the previous volume) and Part D" out of the four parts A, B, C, and D that make up the entire film, it also includes valuable reproduction cells of many famous scenes that were created based on them. Following the previously published "Storyboards 1 & 2," this book will reveal in detail the production process of this cutting-edge expression.
The movie version of "AKIRA" was constructed through a thorough process in which the "layouts" of each scene, with the background and character movements drawn in detail, were instructed and revised by the animation director, art director, and even director Otomo himself. The incredible uncompromising screen production can be experienced by flipping through the pages as each scene moves in sequence, making this an unprecedented book. Like the previous two volumes, this volume is almost entirely printed in color and contains the largest number of reproduction cells out of all three volumes. The large fold-out pages are also the largest ever, with a total of about 675 pages.
As this is the final volume, the author's "explanation" is also included at the end of the volume.
